Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Old Galician-Portuguese qual quer, from qual + quer. Compare Catalan qualque, Galician calquera, Spanish cualquier, French quelque and Latin quilibet (which did not develop into its Romance equivalents, but shares with them the same structure and meaning).
