Etymology

Inherited from Old Swedish syndra, equivalent to sönder +‎ -a. Cognate of Danish søndre, Old Norse sundra, Middle Low German sunderen, Old High German suntarōn (from whence Middle High German sundern and German sondern), English sunder.
