Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Finnic *säic'en, from Proto-Finno-Permic *śäjćem. Cognate with Estonian seitse (seven), Erzya сисем (sisem, seven). The original nominative form (seitsen) has been largely displaced by the genitive form, probably by analogy with kahdeksan and yhdeksän.
