Sino-Vietnamese word from 在 (“at, in”).

Usage notes

• Tại is not frequently used in colloquial Vietnamese with the sense "at; in; on". It's only often utilized to somewhat emphasize the place mentioned in the sentence.

  Lấy giấy báo tại trường nha.

  You go get the notice at school [not anywhere else].

• Tại can be used instead of ở before specific adverbials of place, similarly to the English at.

     Nếu chữa lại: 有 載 錢 踞 坐 於 屋 上 者 hữu tại tiền cứ tọa ư ốc thượng giả thì có nghĩa hơn.

     If we correct this: 有 載 錢 踞 坐 於 屋 上 者 yǒu zài qián jù zuò yú wūshàng zhě it is more meaningful.
