From Proto-Slavic *tьlo, whence also Russian тло ‎(tlo), Slovene tla ‎(floor). Non-Slavic cognates include Latin tellūs ‎(the Earth), Sanskrit तल ‎(tala, surface), Old Irish talam ‎(earth).
