  1. (mineralogy) A ferric hydrate, 2Fe2O3H2O, closely related to hematite and limonite.
    Synonyms: esmeraldite, hydrohematite, lepidocrocite

      The Bakal' deposit is a relatively rare type of iron deposit; the ores are siderites, grading in the oxidized zone into brown ironstones and turgites.
