    From Early Medieval Latin verēda (path, main road), perhaps from Late Latin verēdus (light breed of horse), from Gaulish *werēdos, ultimately from Proto-Celtic *uɸoreidos (compare Welsh gorwydd (horse)). Cognate with Galician verea and Tashelhit abrid.
