- (after the past-tense form of a verb) would have, forms the past conditional
- láttam (“I saw [it], I have seen [it]”) → láttam volna (“I would have seen [it]”)
- Oda kellett mennem. ― I had to go there. →
- Oda kellett volna mennem. ― I should have gone there.
- Melegebb volna/lenne, ha nem nyitottad volna ki az ablakot! (the first instance is a verb form, interchangeable with lenne; the second is a particle)
- It would be warmer if you hadn't opened the window!
