[edit]Probably from or related with Arabic أَشْحَطَ (ʔašḥaṭa, “to remove, to put or send away”). Similar senses are found in Egyptian Arabic شحط (šaḥaṭ, “to put/throw dough in the oven”), North Levantine Arabic حشط (ḥašaṭ, “to throw”), Moroccan Arabic (Tangier) شعط (šʕaṭ, “to smash”).
