From Ancient Greek mushroom name ἀμᾱνί̄της (amāní̄tēs), from the mountain range Ᾰ̓́μᾱνος (Ámānos) with the provenience suffix -ῑ́της (-ī́tēs), plus the later colloquial suffix +‎ -άρι (-ári).
