[edit]Perhaps borrowed from a pseudo-Latin construction Latin *expōnātus (“(something) exhibited, displayed”), from expōnō (the correct past passive participle is expositus). Compare Russian экспона́т (eksponát), Belarusian экспана́т (ekspanát), Polish eksponat.
