Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic храбрость (xrabrostĭ), from Proto-Slavic *xorbrostь. Displaced the native East Slavic form хоробрость (xorobrostʹ). By surface analysis, хра́брый (xrábryj) +‎ -ость (-ostʹ).
