[edit]From *qarğïš (“curse”), from the verb qarğï- (“to curse”).
Synchronously, ҡарғы- (“to curse”) + -ыш.
Compare to Old Uyghur [script needed] (qarğïš, “curse”);[1] Kazakh қарғыс (qarğys), Kyrgyz каргыш (kargış), Southern Altai каргыш (kargïš), Uzbek qargʻish, also Khakas харғас (xarğas, “curse”).
