Adverb[edit]

פָּחוֹת (pakhót)

  1. Less, less often, with less intensity, to a lesser extent.

Usage notes[edit]

  • In Modern Hebrew, when פחות modifies a definite adjective, the ה־ (ha-, [definiteness marker]) attaches to it, rather than to the adjective itself.
  • פחות is typically used in concert with the preposition מ־ (mi-, from) (with a simple noun or pronoun) or the conjunction מאשר (me'ashér, from what) (with an infinitive, prepositional phrase, or clause). These serve the same role in Hebrew that than serves in English.
