Inherited from Sanskrit इष्टका (íṣṭakā, “brick”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hišt- (“brick”), possibly from the BMAC substrate. Compare Urdu اِینْٹ (īnṭ) / Hindi ईंट (ī̃ṭ).
