   • c. 1260s, Jalāl ad-Dīn Mohammad Rūmī, translated by Reynold A. Nicholson, مثنوی معنوی [Masnavi-ye-Ma'navi], volume II, verse 3347:

     در رخ مه عیب بینی می‌کنی / در بهشتی خارچینی می‌کنی

     dar rox-e mah 'eyb-bini mi-koni / dar behešti xâr-čini mi-koni

     You are observing defects on the face of the moon: you are picking thorns in a Paradise.

2. vice
   • c. 1260s, Jalāl ad-Dīn Mohammad Rūmī, translated by Reynold A. Nicholson, مثنوی معنوی [Masnavi-ye-Ma'navi], volume I, verse 2349:

     خواجه در عیب است غرقه تا به گوش / خواجه را مال است و مالش عیب پوش

     xâje dar 'eyb ast ğarqe tâ be guš / xâje-râ mâl ast o mal-aš 'eyb puš

     The merchant is plunged in vice up to the ears, [but] the merchant has money, and his money covers his vice
