Etymology

[edit]

From Prakrit *𑀅𑀦𑁆𑀦𑀉𑀝𑁆𑀞 (*annaüṭṭha), with further etymology unknown. Cognate with Nepali अनौठो (anauṭho), Sindhi اَنَوٺَو (anoṭho), Marathi अनोठा (anoṭhā).[1] Connection with Prakrit 𑀅𑀦𑀼𑀝𑁆𑀞 (anuṭṭha, not risen, still) is semantically tenuous but phonologically plausible.
