Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀅𑀧𑁆𑀧𑀡𑀕 (appaṇaga), 𑀅𑀢𑁆𑀢𑀡𑀕 (attaṇaga), from Sanskrit *आत्मनक (ātmanaka), from आत्मन् (ātmán, self) +‎ -क (-ka). Cognate Punjabi ਆਪਣਾ (āpaṇā).
