[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *HáHtaH, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ń̻Hteh₂ (“door jamb”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬄𐬌𐬚𐬌𐬌𐬁 (ąiθiiā, “door post”), Latin antae, Old Norse ǫnd, Old Armenian (դր-)անդի ((dr-)andi, “porch”).
