Etymology[edit]
Inherited from Proto-Indo-Iranian *pramaHnam, from *pra- + *maHnam, from Proto-Indo-European *meh₁nom, from *meh₁- (“to measure”). Cognate with Old Persian 𐎳𐎼𐎶𐎠𐎴𐎠 (framānā); see New Persian فرمان (farmân, “decree”).
