Etymology

Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀲𑀓𑁆𑀓𑁂𑀤𑀺 (sakkedi), 𑀲𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀤𑀺 (sakkadi), from Sanskrit शक्नोति (śaknóti, to be able), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱₔk-néw-ti (to be able). Cognate with Punjabi ਸਕਣਾ (sakṇā), Nepali सक्नु (saknu), Gujarati શકવું (śakvũ), Marathi शकणे (śakṇe), Konkani शक्चे (śakce).
