Borrowed from Spanish Azqueltán, from a Nahuan language, equivalent to Classical Nahuatl *Āzcatlān (from āzcatl (ant) +‎ -tlān (place)), a calque of Tepecano toʹtona·rtám, from to·ʹnar (small ant).
