Etymology[edit]
First attested as Westlaren in 1936. Compound of west (“west-, western”) and the dative plural form of Old Dutch lar (“intensively cultivated forest, forest pasture”). The toponym is of a recent date and was formed after older toponyms such as Midlaren and Zuidlaren.
