Last part from Old Norse gras (grass, herbage; herb (with special powers)), from Proto-Germanic *grasą (grass), from the root of *grōaną (to green, grow) and *grōniz (green), from Pre-Germanic *groh₁-ni-s, from Proto-Indo-European *gʰreH₁- (to grow (of plants)).
