Usage notes

• In and around the province of Cebu, adto is used in contrast with anhi (“to go here, to come”) and anha (“to go to a place near the listener”). In some Cebuano-speaking areas outside of Cebu, such as in Davao City, adto is used in a general manner to mean "to go, to come" regardless of destination. To be more precise, adto may be used in conjunction with the adverbs dinhi (“here”), dinha (“there (near speaker)”), and didto (“there (far from both speaker and listener)”).

  (Cebu): Moanhi sila ― They will come (here)

  (outside Cebu): Moadto sila dinhi ― They will come here

  (Cebu): Nianha siya? ― Did he come to your place?

  (outside Cebu): Niadto siya dinha? ― Did he come to your place?
