Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Dutch East Indies Malay alpoekat, there are several possibilities:
- influenced from an archaic word of Sundanese alpoekat (“advocate”), from Dutch advocaat (“attorney, lawyer”)
- from Arabic الْأَفُوكَاتَة (al-ʔafūkāta, “avocado”), a variant of أفوكادو
- from corruption of Dutch avocado (“avocado”).
