Etymology[edit]
Inherited from Ottoman Turkish بویله (böyle), from earlier bunlayu, Old Turkic 𐰉𐰆 (b¹u /bu/, “this”) + 𐰞𐰖𐰆 (l¹y¹u /-lAyU/) (similative suffix). Compare öyle (“like that”), şöyle (“like that”). Cognate with Azerbaijani belə, (archaic) böylə.
