A part of a series of loan words from unattested ancient Greek dialects labeled as Macedonian because it was akin to the native idiom of the Greek-speaking population in the Argead Kingdom.^[1] borrowed as Ancient Macedonian *mīrýkhā^[2]
Proto-Albanian *brukā. Compare Proto-Slavic *bьrkь (“twig, stalk, sharp end”).^[3]
Alternatively from Ancient Greek μυρίκη (muríkē).^[4]
