Etymology 1

[edit]

From Latin faenum (hay),[1][2][3] which derives from Proto-Indo-European *dʰeh₁(y)-no-, from *dʰeh₁(y)-. Another proposed etymology is a Vulgar Latin *flēnum,[4] from a blending of flōs (flower) and faenum.
