Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Finnic *muistadak, from Proto-Finno-Ugric *muja-. Cognate to Finnish muistaa, Veps muštta, Erzya муемс (mujems, “to find”), Eastern Mari муаш (muaš, “to find, to get, to understand, to decide”), Northern Khanty мўйәптә- (mŭjəptə-, “to let sb guess sth”), and possibly Komi-Zyrian мойд (mojd, “fairytale”) and Hungarian mutat (“to show”).
