[edit]Etymology
[edit]From po- + ić. The shift of -o- to -ó- is due to frequent use of the word. /ɔ/ usually shifted to /o/ in closed syllables (compare łoże, łożyć -> łóżko) except in prefixes and adpositions. The frequency of the word highly lexicalized it, causing the shift. Compare Middle Polish dójść (modern dojść). First attested in the 15th century.
