Etymology[edit]
From pod- + powiedzieć. Calque of Ukrainian підказа́ти (pidkazáty).[1] First attested in the 19th century.[2]

podpowiedzieć pf (imperfective podpowiadać)
- (transitive) to clue in, to prompt; to suggest (to give someone an answer to something they either don't know or forgot i.e. on a test) [+dative = whom]
- (transitive) to prompt; to suggest (to lead someone toward what they should say or do) [+dative = whom]
- (reflexive, colloquial, technology) to autosuggest, to fill in automatically (of software etc, to automatically show information in a field)
