poison message (plural poison messages)

  1. (computing) A message that causes processing to fail, and thus remains in the message queue and prevents processing of further messages.
    • 2011, Neil Mackenzie, Microsoft Windows Azure Development Cookbook:
      When there is only a single consumer, a poison message can completely block processing of the queue.
