Borrowed from English sketch, from Dutch schets, from Italian schizzo, from Latin schedium, from Ancient Greek σχέδιος (skhédios, “made suddenly, off-hand”), from σχεδόν (skhedón, “near, nearby”), from ἔχω (ékhō, “I hold”). Doublet of szkic (“sketch, quick freehand drawing, rough design or draft”).
