Central Franconian[edit]
Alternative forms[edit]
- Ääts, Ääds (variant spellings)
- Erts, Erds (few Ripuarian dialects)
- Erwes, Erres, Äres (Moselle Franconian)
- Eëts (Kirchröadsj)
Etymology[edit]
From Old High German arawīz. The form with -z-, which is also found in bordering dialects of Low Franconian, may due to a compromise between shifted and unshifted forms.
