[edit]From Ottoman Turkish چكنمك (çekinmek, “to pull, to draw on to one's self, to draw back and recoil through fear, scruple or dislike”),[1] from Ottoman Turkish چكمك (çekmek, “to pull, to draw, to attract”), from Proto-Turkic *ček- (“to pull, drive towards oneself”),[2][3] morphologically çek- + -in + -ti.
