Etymology

Learned borrowing from French psychose from Ancient Greek ψυχή f (psukhḗ, “soul”), ψυχ- of ψυχο- (psukho-) + -ose after névrose. Different sense for the Hellenistic ψύχωσις f (psúkhōsis, “giving life, animating”).
