Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Turkic *ādïg (“awake; conscious; sober; clear (of weather)”), a participal name of condition derived from Proto-Turkic *ād- (“to get conscious, to get sober; to clear (of weather)”).
Compare to Karakhanid اَذِغْ (aδïɣ, “sober, conscious”); Kazakh айық (aiyq, “clear (of weather)”), Kumyk айыкъ (ayıq, “sober”), Southern Altai айык (ayïk, “careful”), Turkish ayık (“sober”), Khakas айығ (ayığ, “bringing someone into consciousness”), Chuvash урă (ură, “sober”).
