Cognate with Kazakh бояу (boäu), Karakalpak boyaw, Kyrgyz боё (boyo), Crimean Tatar boyamaq, Karaim бойа-, Kumyk боямакъ (boyamaq), Bashkir буяу (buyaw), Tatar буяу (buyaw), Azerbaijani boyamaq, Gagauz boyamaa, Turkish boyamak, Turkmen boýamak, Uzbek boʻyamoq, Uyghur بويىماق (boyimaq), Tuvan будуур (buduur), etc.
