From на (na) + Proto-Slavic *opakъ.[1] Compare Macedonian наопаку (naopaku), Serbo-Croatian на̏опа̄ко / nȁopāko, Polish na opak, Czech naopak.

- contrariwise, conversely, the other way round, vice versa
- (conjunctive) on the contrary, to the contrary, rather (introducing a contrast to a prior statement or assumption)
- зо́всім навпаки́ ― zóvsim navpaký ― quite the contrary, quite the opposite
