Inherited from Proto-Slavic *orzkopati. By surface analysis, роз- (roz-) +‎ копа́ти (kopáty). Compare Russian раскопа́ть (raskopátʹ), Belarusian раскапа́ць (raskapácʹ), Polish rozkopać.
