Etymology

From Proto-Turkic *yalïŋ (lone, solitary; naked). Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (jalïŋus, sole, only), Old Uyghur [script needed] (jalŋuz, sole, only), Bashkir яңғыҙ (yañğıź, lonely), Tatar ялгыз (yalgız, lonely), Kazakh жалғыз (jalğyz, lonely), Southern Altai јаҥыс (ǰaŋïs, lone, only, lonely), Turkish yalnız (lonely).
