Etymology[edit]
Possibly from Proto-Turkic *kɨr (“uncultivated land”). Cognate with Kazakh қырыс (qyrys, “non-compliant, bad-tempered”), Kyrgyz кырс (kırs, “quick-tempered, touchy”).
