From Middle High German dorsch, borrowed from Middle Low German dorsch, itself from Old Norse þorskr, from Proto-Germanic *þurskaz. Compare German Dorsch. Alternative form דראָש (drosh) formed via metathesis of דאָרש (dorsh).
