Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Polish jarmułka (skullcap) and Ukrainian ярмулка (jarmulka), from Turkish yağmurluk (rainwear).[1] However, it could also be from or influenced by Medieval Latin almutia (hood, cowl) (compare Latin amictus (clothed, veiled)).[2]
