Borrowed from Aramaic נזר (literally “he abstained”), compare Arabic نَذَرَ (naḏara, literally “he consecrated”) and Arabic نَذِرَ (naḏira, literally “he showed reserve”), Akkadian 𒈾𒉌𒌓𒊒 (nazáru, literally “he cursed”).
