Etymology

It has been suggested that this word is derived from Ancient Greek προσβολή (prosbolḗ). Ernest Klein suggests that פרוזבול is derived from a shortened form of the phrase

πρός βουλῇ βουλευτῶν

prós boulêi bouleutôn

before the assembly of councillors
