Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀉𑀢𑁆𑀢𑀭𑀤𑀺 (uttaradi), from Sanskrit उत्तरति (uttarati, to alight, descend).

Verb[edit]

اُتَرْنا (utarnā) (Hindi spelling उतर्ना)

  1. to get down, to get off
    دَرَخْت سے اُتْرو۔
    daraxt se utro.
    Get off the tree.
  2. to descend, dismount
    گھوڑے سے اُتْرو اَور میرے ساتھ آؤ۔
    ghoṛe se utro aur mere sāth āo.
    Get off the horse and come with me.
  3. to wear off, fade, disappear
    نَشَہْ اُتَرْنا
    naśah utarnā
    To regain sense.
    (literally, “for the drugs to wear off”)
  4. to land (an airplane)
    جَہاز اُتَر گَیا ہَے۔
    jahāz utar gayā hai.
    The plane has landed.
  5. (road transport) to exit, leave (highway or motorway)
    یَہاں سے اُتَرْنا ہَے۔
    yahā̃ se utarnā hai.
    This is the exit we need to take.
    (literally, “This is where we need to exit.”)
