Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *bōńduruk (yoke), an unusual development of *bōń (neck), whence بویون (boyun, neck). Cognate with Azerbaijani boyunduruq, Kazakh мойынтұрық (moiyntūryq), Kyrgyz моюнтурук (moyunturuk), Turkmen boýuntyryk, Uyghur بويۇنتۇرۇق (boyunturuq) and Uzbek boʻyinturuq.
