Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Classical Persian ذِکْرِ اِلٰهِی (zikr-i ilāhī), a calque of Arabic ذِكْرِ الله (ḏikri llāh). By surface analysis, ذِکْر (zikr, mention; remembrance) +‎ اِلٰہی (ilāhī, divine).
